There is one thing that will kill every good Mother’s Day, or any holiday for that matter: expectations. I’ve learned to lower mine over the years and it turns out I’ve increased my levels of happiness by huge proportions.
Sure last Sund...Read Full Post »

There are 3 things I should never, ever, never, ever
run out of if I want to keep peace and harmony in my home:
1. Ranch Dressing
2. Ketchup or Catsup (if you prefer) and
If it were possible I would also have nacho cheese on hand but I have yet a way to figure out how to acquire me one of them nacho cheese machines.
Sometimes at our house we have pancakes for breakfast. Grammy's homemade buttermilk pancakes. Mmmmmm'mmmm!
But when 7 people hav...Read Full Post »

An Open Letter to my Daughter
I have been a certified parent educator for 17 years. I have been a parent for fifteen. The first two years of my career, needless to say were all theory and no experience. Probably not my best work. However, since then I’ve had five children. Whether or not this made me more credible as a parent educator i...Read Full Post »

When it comes to buying Easter basket candy I think there are three routes you can take. You can a.) buy the candy your kids like, b.) buy discounted candy in an effort to make your dollar last longer or c.) purchase your personal, favorite candy.
As I sit thi...Read Full Post »

I took the twins to a Family Fun Day at our local YMCA last weekend.
They enjoyed bounce houses, door prizes, freebies and coloring contests. Abby particularly enjoyed the coloring contest. While I sat on the bleachers, precariously balancing their overstuffed bags of goodies, Abby meticulously colored her paper.
Typical Abby-style. She can't be rushed or hurried along for anything. I've never met a child who took her own sweet time as much ...Read Full Post »

This picture might not mean a thing to you
but it means the world to me.
Maybe you can't distinguish what kind of blossoms these are
but I'll never forget.
It's quite probable that you can't possibly fathom giving my blog entry a second thought
but nothing else is on my mind today.
You see, this is a cherry tree...Read Full Post »

Children absolutely need to exercise their right to make their own choices. But as a parent, I have the privilege, nay the responsibility, of limiting the choices made available to them. If left to their own devices I am not only certain my children would choose poorly, I...Read Full Post »

I forget how not normal we are.
With the youngest two kids gone for the evening the remaining five of us took advantage of the
quiet quieter house. (Keep in mind our family refers to itself as a Tribe for a reason!) We tend to move through this life as one big herd unit (much to my tweenagers dismay).
That's why when some of us are gone we
take advantage of it cease the moment.
That was the ...Read Full Post »

If you and your husband go grocery shopping can it be considered a date?
I was wondering because on day 5 of the two of us being home with 5 kids on spring break we needed to get away.
And rather than paper-rock-scissors for who got to go to the store, we decided we'd hit the aisles together.
That's a date right?
It has been just recently that darling hubby took over the respon...Read Full Post »

Mothers do not get enough credit. If you are a good mother you will certainly get nothing as far as accolades go. If you are a bad mother you might find yourself on the evening news.
Being a mom is not easy. I wish all the mothers I know would give themselves a pat on the back and then cut themselves some slack.
"It is soooooo hard!" My girlfriends, my clients, I, all say..... we all have a tough task a head of us. Whether you have...Read Full Post »
